Watching the Sox Spring Training Opener

7:11 PM: Currently watching the Sox from City of Palms! Thought I would blog it due to the fact that Adam's buddies Dustpans & Murphdog are starting (batting 7th and 8th respectively.) I'll continue with any news from them.

7:39 PM: Minnesota jumps ahead 1-0.

7:43 PM: DustPans gets the first Red Sox hit of 2007!

7:44 PM: Murphdog gets the second hit!! Who let the dogs out? Murph, Murph, Murph, Murph!

7:48 PM: DP scores the first run! 1-1.

7:51 PM: Murph scores! 2-1.

8:16 PM: With a 4-1 lead, I must take a break and attend to scholarly duties.

Adam Injured

From the Baltimore Sun:

Outfielder Adam Stern remains shut down with a strained right oblique muscle.

"He's a gamer that doesn't want to quit," Perlozzo said. "It's hard to keep the leash on him, but we're doing that right now because those are injuries that can drag on and we don't want to do that. We want to see him play a little bit. He's day-to-day. He'll have time if we keep him from having a setback."

Stern Awarded

A bit of month-old news so fun that I'm not sure how we missed it! On January 13, 2007, Adam received the first-ever Stubby Clapp Award. in recognition of "desire, competitiveness and a never-say-die attitude."

Photo credits to Baseball Canada. Stern comments on his move to Baltimore:

After being with the Boston Red Sox, Stern is looking for a steady job with the Orioles, who have Jay Payton, Corey Patterson and Nick Markakis in the outfield.

"Being dealt to Baltimore was a good move," Stern said. "For a young guy to break in with Boston was harder."

True, unfortunately. Also in the article, we learn that Adam is essentially Justin Morneau's housewife:

Morneau, a Team Canada grad, made $385,000 US in 2006 and will jump to the $2 million-$3 million range, unless he signs a long-term deal. The first baseman doesn't have to spend on cleaning help this off-season. Stern, his off-season roomie looks after the New West apartment.
"I keep things tidy, he autographs bats for me, it's a good deal," said Stern, a Baltimore Oriole.

From Orioles Spring Training Camp

Adam arrived at camp on Valentine's Day (Wed, February 14.) The Baltimore Sun wrote:

Outfielder Adam Stern was the only field player to report today. Field players aren't required to report until Tuesday.

Oh Adam, you over-achiver. Above is a photo from the Baltimore Sun from Thursday, February 15 (Adam's wearing #40.) We wish Adam a healthy and happy Spring Training with the birds. Also, there are lots of Canadians (Canadiens) in the Orioles' camp this year, so we'll be sure to keep you updated on their antics, as well as any other Adam-related news.
